Our Community exists to grow adults and young workers into mature Christians who serve God by worshipping him, reaching others with the message of Jesus, and spurring each other on toward the glory that awaits.

At Six we focus on clear, passionate, and applied teaching from the Scripture, humble & confident prayer, and enthusiastic joy-filled praise & worship. We seek to grow our faith by committing ourselves to each other through Church, Growth Groups, and Outreach.

One of the great struggles for many people is the pace of life. At Six we endeavor to challenge and equip you to be intentional about making space for Christian Community & making your faith come alive at work, home, or wherever.

What Happens at Six?
'We Worship Together'
Week 1, 3, 4: Praise & Thanksgiving
A service of prayer, praise and teaching with a major emphasis on praise through contemporary Christian music. Week 2: The Lord's Supper
We especially remember and celebrate Jesus' death and resurrection as we share in the bread and wine together.
       Special Services:
Services focussed on issues & topics relevant to our immediate context as adults living in Melbourne. These are evangelistic and always seek to address these topics from a Biblical and pastoral point of view.
Teaching & Preaching at 6pm
Our goal at Six is to grow mature Christians by teaching the Scriptures with clarity and power. We believe that applied preaching based upon the Bible will change us into the likeness of Jesus through the work of the Holy Spirit. Each week the preaching is recorded and can be downloaded here. 'We Grow Together'
Growth Groups
In a Growth group you will be challenged and equipped to grow in faith, grow the Kingdom of God, and grow together as Christians. All growth groups meet on weeknights for about 2 hours for a time of bible study, prayer, discussion and worship. Growth groups are open and welcoming to newcomers and provide them with an opportunity to meet others at Six.
If you are interested in joining a Growth group linked to the 6pm congregation please contact Megan on 98167119

Small Groups - 7pm Online

One of the ways we meet during the week is in smaller groups of about 10-15 people. In the past we have likened these groups to small churches because in them we have aimed to do all the same things as a church. As a result, some of us call our groups Little church or LC.In these groups we study the Bible going through a curriculum that parallels the Sunday night talks. Also, we pray, eat a meal together and have fun. These groups aim to be a welcoming place where long lasting and meaningful friendships can grow. For more information email Jane Lockrey (Secondary School) or Kim Beales (18+).

In July 2007, Oaktree organised an enormous bus trip. Around 1000 young people from all across Australia descended on Sydney to lobby the then government and opposition to raise the amount allocated to foreign aid to 0.7% of the national GDP. The trip included a series of live concerts in towns along the way, and a short film was played on repeat promoting Make Poverty History on the side of the Opera House for all of Sydney harbor to see. Kevin Rudd pledged that if Labor Party won the federal election they would raise the amount given to 0.5%. This was an amazing achievement which amounted to billions of dollars.

'Community' is more than a cliche - 7pm Online

We believe 'community' is more than a cliche.

Here is why...

Depression and mental health problems are reaching epidemic proportions in our corner of the world. It is no secret that one of the greatest causes of depression is lack of real healthy community. Many people put community low down the list of their life priorities. Community will be sacrificed suddenly for another international experience, for career, buying a house - anything to increase our chances of coming closer to reaching some kind of imagined perfection.

The Bible's solution to this problem is what is called 'The Body of Christ'. As followers of Jesus, together we make a body of believers that is called 'The Body of Christ'. This is because together, we do the work of Christ, we love like Christ loved on earth, we have the power of Christ's Spirit, and we are centered on the teaching of Jesus Christ. All of this together makes up for community as God intended it.

This does not mean that Christians don't get depressed or experience suffering inside Christian community. Community will not be made perfect until Jesus return. This is our great hope. No more death, pain or suffering. In the mean time, we work towards this by living out real community in the power of God's spirit. Surrounded by the mess of this world, we experience people who genuinely love us and we are given a clear purpose - to reach out to others with this love.

Practically, we live out this community in our gatherings and in our service towards one another. There are hundreds of opportunities in our community to serve one another, leading groups, helping out with food, coaching sport teams, running bible studies, playing music - no matter how God has wired you up, there is an opportunity for you to serve.

Sunday night at Genezzano is our corporate way of expressing our love for one another. So come along and experience real community as God designed it.

Most of all, we hope that on Sunday nights God will connect with us and change us through the words in the Bible, through his Spirit in our hearts and minds, and through his people in the community.

There are always lots of visitors on a Sunday night and so it is sometimes difficult for me to catch up with everyone who is new. So, if you come and visit, please introduce yourself to me or to someone else who has been up the front.

There has been a long history of a growing and exciting youth work at our church. We have three groups.Wipeout (yr 7-9)Three (yr 10-12)

Traditionally, most church youth groups have been about going roller skating and ten pin bowling. Our youth groups are a bit different. We do have lots of fun, however, we put a big focus on developing our faith. Once a month, Wipeout meets for a night of youth worship and teaching called Refresh.

We focus on mission in our community. In fact, we have birthed two growing mission organisations: Mustard and The Oaktree Foundation. (Photo Right - Mustard performers at the Caufield Grammar 2008 mission).

When we say 'mission', we mean that we want everyone to know the good news about Jesus and to follow him. Also, mission is about action, we believe that this same good news should bring about physical transformation in the world. When this action takes place, injustice turns to justice: the poor are fed, the lonely are loved, and the persecuted are defended.

Our Father in Heaven... - 7pm Online

We aim to be a people soaked in prayers. This is not always easy. It is easier to focus on the tasks before us. It stands to reason, however, that if you have the power of the creator of the Universe on offer, we should access this power. Also, being a Christian is having a relationship with God, so we should be regularly talking to him.

Apart from the regular prayer that we encourage each other to do in our own private time, we pray in our small groups, and have regular prayer gatherings that people can come to during the week. In 2007 we will be having six 24 hour prayer vigils, where people pray for an hour at a time in a chain for 24 hours straight. When we did this in the past I used to always end up in the 3am spot. It sounds extreme, but it very amazing to see how God speaks to us through this time.

Last year we did a prayer walk on a Sunday night. This involved walking in groups of about 15 praying around the streets of Kew and stopping at different posts and praying. We found this was a very powerful and important act of worship.

Every Sunday night we have a prayer team who offers to pray for people. Often people respond to something in the sermon, or they simply want to meet with God, or want to be healed of physical, emotional or spiritual suffering.

We are a community that loves the arts and wants to express our faith through the arts. My background and training is in classical music, and I still play in pub bands so I have always had a strong interest in expressing my faith through the arts (check this lame link out). There are lots of great musicians in our church who help lead us in our worship music. These musicians come from bands in the Melbourne pub band, as well as the jazz and classical music scenes.

Artists and Musicians such as Rusty Crocket and Lachie Outhred from Like Bears (see photo above left), Kim Beales, record producer and electronic musician Myles Mumford, and singer songwriter Dave Toll all use their musical gifts to help us in our artistic worship.
